“ | Ow! Okay, okay, I will work! - Worker being pushed to work |
” |

Workers were employed by the GLA to perform manual labor (occasionally through coercion) during the War against the GLA.
Background[]
Workers' tasks included building and repairing structures and carrying supplies. They were trained in command centers and Supply Stashes. They were also trained to safely remove landmines. Being unarmed, workers were very easy targets for enemy forces and therefore required protection; however, unlike construction dozers, they were very cheap to train and could not be neutralized/hijacked and stolen by the enemy.
Abilities[]
Clear Mines | The worker will clear mines and booby traps within the assigned area. |
Upgrades[]

Worker Shoes | Increases their movement speed, build speed and collection rate by 10% by giving them shoes. | Purchasable at any Black Market for a cost of $1000. Available in Zero Hour only. |
Game unit[]
Since workers are technically a type of infantry, they can make use of transports to move rapidly across the map, making them faster than construction dozers. Since they were also GLA's resource gatherers and were therefore present in larger numbers than dozers, "dozer hunting" (i.e. the destruction of enemy construction units to cripple base development) was much more difficult to employ against GLA enemies, especially since new workers could be trained at two different types of buildings. A single escaping worker, carried by a transport to a distant map point, could quickly begin reconstituting a seemingly defeated GLA player.
Like the dozers, the worker cannot detect mines and is vulnerable to being blown up by them. However, if ordered to sweep for mines in a specific area, he will be safe from the mines in that particular spot, and will clear them successfully, despite his voiced foreboding at being ordered to do so.
They were unarmed and without any armour. Since the GLA did not make use of any power, their construction speed was slower than that of other factions. Capturing an enemy power plant would allow a worker to construct buildings faster, however.

Trivia[]
- According to the Generals sound files, the worker shoes upgrade was supposed to be in standard Generals, but was eventually moved to Zero Hour.
- The censored German versions of Generals and Zero Hour omit quotes which imply the worker is subjected to torment and starvation.
